RUN ABBOTT RUN - mock the week

In the last sitting week of parliament before the May budget, the Abbott government has gone off-message. Nobody was expecting such a circus least of all Abbott who has come unstuck a few times in Question Time. Politically, it's the worst possible week to become distracted and many senior Coalition MPs know it. There has been considerable public backlash. In just one week the voting public have been subjected to:

* RED TAPE REPEAL DAY AND THE LOSS OF WORKERS’ RIGHTS

* THE ARTHUR SINODINOS SCANDAL

* CHANGES TO THE RACIAL DISCRIMINATION ACT A.K.A. “THE BOLT LAWS”

* NON-REMOVAL OF THE CARBON TAX VIA THE SENATE

* NON-REMOVAL OF THE MINING TAX VIA THE SENATE

* SECRETIVELY REINTRODUCING KNIGHTS AND DAMES

* TURBULENCE BECAUSE OF PERFORMANCE ISSUES RAISED OVER BRONWYN BISHOP [SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE]

* IGNORING ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND MOCKING THE "MARCH IN MARCH" PROTESTS INVOLVING 150,000 CONSTITUENTS

* PLAYING DOWN UNITED NATIONS CRITICISM OF THE TREATMENT OF ASYLUM SEEKERS ON MANUS ISLAND

* IGNORING ABC TV ALLEGATIONS THAT ASYLUM SEEKERS HAD HANDS BURNT BY NAVAL PERSONNEL

* ABBOTT HURRIEDLY SENDING RESCUE PERSONNEL TO SEARCH FOR MISSING FLIGHT MH-370 ONLY TO DISCOVER HE’D SENT THEM IN THE WRONG DIRECTION WASTING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS

The general public have mocked Abbott continuously this past week. The craze of the moment is to add titles such as Sir; Dame; Viscount; Lord etc to social media handles on Twitter and Facebook - a craze that is still gathering momentum.

Labor's opportunity to mock and ridicule Abbott broke the Coalition's parliamentary momentum. Abbott is clearly frustrated that Labor is not being punished for obstructing the repeal of the carbon and mining taxes in the Senate. Repealing the two taxes was an election promise he has NOT been able to deliver on. One pre-election statement he made, was that he would instigate a Double Dissolution, if the tax repeals were blocked…a promise he’d better think twice about, as at this stage, being the least popular PM of all time would guarantee his defeat.

The Abbott government is beginning to cop more and more public backlash.
